initial set design.

While i worked on the storyboards Claudia drew up the set designs. For our narrative element the set design is a very important aspect as it tells a whole new story determining on what is in front of the camera.

For example my initial idea had the child strapped to the TV in a lab, which made it more scientific and clinical, this added the idea that whatever was happening to the child was being aloud by some power institution.

Now the idea has been developed in a direction away from the initial idea, it has become more about white old men willing to kill children to get what they want for there sick highs.

Due to the idea development, we as a group have discussed that we need the old men to be doing some sort of action on screen otherwise the audience would get board. We haven’t got the old men in just to be props, due to it being peoples time and it being expensive to get people in we must push what we have got. The girls suggested we have a bar, as the old men could interact with the bar. I didn’t like this idea because I felt it distracted the men from the TV and took away from the impact of the act.

The image below is the set design for the narrative element drawn by Claudia.

We want it to appear like an exclusive gentlemen's club. With a big sofa, the old tv’s in an old manor house, and this is what the set design is supposed to show.

The second element (the dance element) will be in what will appear as a shipment container. After speaking with the lighting guy George we came to the conclusion that what we would do is light the dancer with the white bars of light in the studio as we would have more control, and then when the lights come one we can cut to inside the container.

Here is the set design drawn up by Claudia.

The final element (the performance) is one of the simplest but I believe effective. Georgia came up with the idea of the performers being lit from behind with a large white rectangle making the performers appear in silhouette, I think this is a wicked idea.

While platforms look cool, due to a narrative being such a large set is likely to be difficult to be have both on the day so we will probably have to cut out the platforms.

Overall while I like the dance element being in a shipment container and the performance element I am really not liking the narrative element set design. I don’ t believe it fits at all with any of the other elements. I believe it must be developed into something more then just a gentlemen’s club, maybe something foreign, introducing the idea of westerners going into other countries like Bangkok and going to this underground sex clubs or whatever, adding the element of a foreign concept also it being underground means this technology has been created by someone higher up potential in the government, therefore introducing the idea for what is the government using the technology.
